More help for children affected by crime
IN a bid to provide better support for child victims of crime in Huangpu District, all such cases are now handled by the juvenile criminal inspection team, local officials said yesterday.
Following discussions among Huangpu prosecutors, it was decided that the team, which formerly dealt only with crimes committed by people under the age of 18, should also manage cases involving personal right abuses involving juveniles.
Under the new arrangement, young victims of crimes such as molestation, intentional injury, trafficking and maltreatment will be offered access to legal aid, medical treatment, psychiatric consultation and other support services.
According to local prosecutor Wu Haiyun, agreement has been reached with the legal aid center of the Huangpu judicial bureau to establish a fast track for poor families whose children become the victims of crime.
Other vital services, such as health care and psychiatric counseling, will be provided in line with the requirements of each case, he said.
