More kindergartens on way
THE city’s education commission plans to open or expand 90 state-funded kindergartens over the next three years to cope with the expected increase in demand for places as a result of relaxed the country’s family planning rules, which is expected to see an increase in the number of babies born. The expansion plan will also include the recruitment of about 1,700 new teachers, it said. Shanghai currently has about 1,500 public sector kindergartens.
