Mother and son ‘burgled homes’
A local woman and her son have been detained for their alleged roles in a series of downtown home burglaries that they committed to feed their drug addiction, Huangpu police said yesterday.
Wang, in her 50s, and Chen, in his 30s, allegedly stole over 400,000 yuan (US$66,000) worth of objects from residential complexes along Xizang Road S. and Guangxi Road N. on nine occasions.
Chen, a tenant in one of the residential complexes, allegedly broke into homes to steal valuable objects such as luxury watches, and Wang sold the stolen goods, police claimed, adding that Wang pawned a luxury watch worth 180,000 yuan at a pawn shop on Nanjing Road W.
Police said the suspects confessed to burglarizing homes to pay for drugs.
