Mother ‘fit to stand trial’
A woman accused of beating her 3-year-old son to death with a bamboo pole has been deemed fit to face trial, prosecutors in the Pudong New Area said yesterday.
The 33-year-old mother of two had sought to escape prosecution by alleging she suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder. While acknowledging her condition, prosecutors ruled that it did not exempt her from criminal proceedings. The suspect was detained at her home in November after calling the emergency services to report the death of the toddler.
