Murder suspect held 7 years on

THE prime suspect in a murder and robbery case dating back seven years has been taken into custody, police in Putuo District said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Li, was detained outside his workplace by officers acting on a tip-off from his cousin.
The relative had earlier offered the information to police in Jiangsu Province, where he had been arrested for affray, in the hope of having his own sentence reduced. When questioned, he said he recalled his relative confessing to the robbery and stabbing when the two men worked together in Shanghai in 2007.
Police traced Li to Shanghai and found him working at a karaoke bar, where he was detained on August 25.
According to Putuo police, since being in custody Li has confessed to robbing and fatally stabbing an unnamed victim on December 30, 2007.
