A man suspected of murdering a woman at a rented house in Yangpu District was found on a train bound for the northeastern city of Harbin and escorted back to Shanghai, police said yesterday.

The woman, who was from central China’s Henan Province, was found dead in an apartment on Zhengtong Road at 1:20pm on Monday after police received a report.

Police told Shanghai Daily there were wounds on the body of the woman, surnamed Sun, but the cause of death had not yet been determined.

The suspect, surnamed Hou, is believed to have been the last person to have had contact with Sun before her death.

Hou, from northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, was apprehended on the train at 7:30pm on Monday and had Sun’s identity card and other items in his possession, said police.
