TWO negligent workmen who were responsible for a huge sterilizing unit exploding, injuring five people and damaging a Metro line 100 meters away, were sentenced to two years in prison with probation of two years, the Songjiang District People's Court said yesterday.
An unlicensed worker, surnamed Gong, and his supervisor, surnamed Yang, were held responsible. On 1:50 am on November 7, last year, the head of a steam autoclave machine broke off and flew out of Shanghai Jianhua Concrete Pile Co Ltd at high speed. The equipment smashed into a platform support on Line 9's elevated section and injured five workers in the factory.
