‘Nervy’ man held for jewel theft
A MAN has been detained on suspicion of stealing more than 1 million yuan (US$160,000) worth of jewelry, Shanghai police said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Sun, was caught about 8pm on Sunday at Hongqiao Railway Station. Police approached him after he disembarked from a train with a nervous look on his face.
Officers discovered he had 72 pieces of jewelry, including necklaces, pendants and diamond rings, in his bag.
Sun stole the items from a car in Fuzhou, southeast China’s Fujian Province, earlier that day, police claimed.
The haul also included an iPhone 6.
Sun, who hails from northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province but had been working in Fuzhou, fled the city after committing the crime, police said.
