China issues new rules on carriage of phone chargers for air travel
THE Civil Aviation Administration of China yesterday issued new rules on the carriage of cellphone chargers by airline passengers.
The rules state that portable chargers with a power rating of less than 100Wh (watt-hours=V*mAh/1000) can be carried inside hand luggage.
For such items, passengers do not need to report them to the airline.
For chargers rated between 100 and 160Wh, passengers must apply for approval from the airline, the authority said, adding that each person can carry no more than two such chargers.
Chargers with a power rating above 160Wh are prohibited, it said.
The administration also prohibited all passengers and flight crew from using portable chargers to charge their electronic devices during the flight.
