New rules on tourist permits
THE Shanghai Exit & Entry Administration Bureau yesterday announced a series of measures to make it easier for people to arrange travel documents for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, or apply for a passport.
Under the revised system a single form will be used for all applications for such documents, the bureau said.
People can complete the form manually or using the new machines at the bureau, which take information from their identity cards. They can also use the machines to submit applications, and arrange collection times, it said.
The processing time for permits has been cut to five days, while anyone who requests a permit within a year of a making a previous application need not submit a new photograph, it said.
Also, people with relatives in Taiwan can now apply for a one or three-year multiple entry permit, it said.
