New team has ticket dodgers in sight
A TEAM of volunteers has been set up at Metro’s Jing’an Temple station to help Metro police officers to catch ticket evaders.
A member of the team said the volunteers will try to dissuade fare dodgers, some of whom duck under entrance barriers or wrongly use travel cards.
Members of the team stand near to the station’s exit turnstiles and try to spot anyone breaking the rules.
A Metro officer told Shanghai Daily that the team has helped to reduce their workload. “Previously, the biggest daily job for Metro officers — apart from tackling — was trying to catch fare dodgers,” the unnamed person said.
“But thanks to the volunteers we can now get on with dealing with other problems like unlicensed vendors,” he said.
Similar teams are also helping at other major Metro stations, including Nanjing Road W., he said.
The team was set up by Metro operator Shentong Group in association with the Jing’an Temple neighborhood committee.
