Newborn baby found dumped in a garbage bin

Shanghai Police said they’re looking for relatives of a newborn baby boy who was found in a garbage bin in a rural neighborhood in Fengxian District on Monday evening.

The baby, slightly underweight but in stable health, is being looked after by pediatricians at Fengxian Central Hospital. He was found by a cleaning lady at about 6pm in Zhongjia Village in Qingcun Town when she heard his cries.

Naked and his umbilical cord still intact, the baby was kept in a plastic bag among the garbage.

Local villagers brought clothes for him and wrapped up the baby and called the police.

Yu Jun, head of the Pediatrics Department at the hospital, told Shanghai Daily that there are no obvious physical defects on the child but they would give him a thorough health checkup.

Yu confirmed that nobody had visited the hospital to claim the child.
