FROM next month, new energy car owners in Shanghai applying for plates will be issued with new-look versions containing updated forgery-proof technology, police announced yesterday.
The new plates will also have 6 digits instead of the current 5, and the letter D has been allocated to all-electric vehicles and F to other green vehicles.
Police said the idea was to encourage more people to buy new energy cars and to make vehicles in this category more discernible to traffic law enforcers.
Nanjing, Wuxi, Jinan and Shenzhen will join Shanghai in taking the same measures.
