No charge against boy for scam
A 13-YEAR-OLD boy who sent the Trojan virus to netizens on a virtual money site and stole from them over 70,000 yuan (US$11,200) escaped prison because of his age, but his 16-year-old accomplice was arrested and will face trial, the Jiading District Prosecutors’ Office said yesterday.
“I saw a link posted on one of my QQ groups on February 14, saying that I could spend only 20 yuan to get Q coins worth 50 yuan,” a victim, surnamed Zhu, told police.
Because Zhu needed some Q coins to play online games, he clicked the link but could not get the coins he wanted.
When the seller told him that he needed to pay 1 more yuan to activate the virtual coins, Zhu entered his bank account number and password into the computer. When the computer began acting oddly, he called his bank and found out that his account had been drained of 35,540 yuan.
