No place to hide: Local railway stations splash pictures, personal details of missing debtors
THE personal details of 20 debtors are being screened at the city’s two railway stations from today.
The names and photos of the 20 and their amount of debt owed were scrolled on the big screens every 10 minutes at the waiting halls and squares of Shanghai Railway Station and Hongqiao Railway Station.
Among them were people who had switched their phone numbers and residence address to escape paying back debts of thousands of yuan, and company bosses who had unpaid debts worth millions of yuan.
The move was carried by Shanghai Railway Transportation Court and Shanghai Railway Bureau. They chose railway stations because its huge passenger flow could help them find clues of these people.
Authorities also believe that the practice would impose psychological pressure on them as they are very likely to show up at these places.
Citizens are also encouraged to tipoff authorities of the debtors
