Nursing homes
City political advisers urged the government to regulate nursing homes and include them in government budgets for the safety of migrant children after they found many nursing homes with poor facilities.
The Shanghai Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy said in a proposal to be submitted to the city government that many nursing homes posed severe safety hazards as they were renovated from farmers’ houses, abandoned factories and schools. Nursing homes are an alternate means to tackle the problem of increasing migrant kids since the existing kindergartens can only take in three-fourths of local preschoolers due to the baby boom and an influx of non-local children.
