Officers hurt in taxi crackdown
A man, suspected to be involved in an illegal taxi operation, allegedly tried to stab a traffic law enforcement officer.
The suspect, surnamed Li, was seized but two officers were slightly injured.
The city’s traffic law enforcement team said at the weekend that Li had been put under criminal detention.
He faces a fine of 10,000 yuan (US$1,470) and his driving license is expected be detained for three to six months as administrative penalties for the illegal taxi operation.
The authority and police launched a joint campaign last Wednesday against illegal taxi operation near Shanghai South Railway Station, and Li was caught using a non-locally registered car for illegal taxi operation.
Li allegedly took a knife from his trousers and tried to stab an officer, who managed to escape, but Li chased him and tried to make a second and third contact with his knife, yelling “I’m going to kill you,” according to the authority. He was then subdued by other officers, two of whom were slightly injured.
