Official jailed for 5 years over bribery
FORMER Jinshan District Deputy Director Lu Jin was jailed for five years for taking 1.3 million yuan (US$187,000) in bribes for construction projects and helping staff with promotions, the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.
The 47-year-old was also fined 400,000 yuan and the bribes were confiscated.
She was found guilty of receiving more than 1.15 million yuan in bribes when she was the head and Party chief of Zhaoxiang Town in Qingpu District, and then as the deputy director of Jinshan.
Over that period, she helped her colleague’s business partner surnamed Pu get construction projects in Zhaoxiang, and in return received 1.15 million yuan in cash. Also, she received 150,000 yuan from a former subordinate she helped get a promotion, the court said. Lu didn’t appeal for a lighter sentence.
Shanghai’s discipline inspection commission began investigating Lu in September, 2015 and prosecutors began a formal graft probe a month later, placing her under “coercive measures,” a catchall for everything from summons by force to bail, residential surveillance, detention or arrest.
