Official under investigation for graft
A DISTRICT official, suspected of taking bribes, was handed over to the prosecutors yesterday, while nine other officials were punished recently for violating the Party’s frugal rules.
Chen Hongfei, former deputy Party chief of Jiading District, has been taken into custody by procurators in the Pudong New Area for investigation into alleged corruption, Shanghai People’s Procuratorate announced on its website, without revealing other details.
The city’s Party discipline inspection commission had said earlier that Chen was being investigated for serious violation against party discipline and Chinese law. The commission did not mention any specific violation.
It also revealed four cases of violations of the country’s frugal rules, also known as eight-point code.
Zhang Jian, former deputy director of the city’s environment monitoring center, toured the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang city, Henan Province, while on official work in Luoyang and the provincial capital Zhengzhou between March 19 and March 21 last year.
He also traveled to Mount Taishan in Shandong Province two days later while on some official work. He was given an administrative warning.
Song Zhiqing, vice chairman of the people’s congress in Haiwan Town of Fengxian District, was also rebuked for paying for massages and banquets with public funds between December 2012 and May 2015. He spent over 36,000 yuan from prepaid cards bought by public funds.
Li Chen’ao, one of the directors at Shanghai academy of agricultural sciences, and four of his colleagues, were punished for using the academy’s car to attend a wedding in Anhui Province. Li was given a record of administrative demerit.
