Officials order ‘Shanghai Yellow Duck’ safety issues fixed
SHANGHAI’S own version of the giant yellow duck is being sent for modifications to correct safety problems, according to the Maritime Safety Administration in Huangpu District.
The “Shanghai Duck” is a renovated ferry that made its debut on August 26 on the Huangpu River. But investigators found the design resulted in safety risks and ordered changes, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
The local version of the duck has a feathered head and roasted body and is part of the government-backed Bund Art Project. It picks up passengers at the Jinling Road Dock and will be in service until the end of September.
The duck, inspired by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman’s rubber duck, was given a roaring thumbs-down, judging by comments on the Internet.
The genuine version is now being shown in Beijing.
