Online services not so popular
FEW residents and foreigners are applying for passports, visas or residence permits online due to a lack of publicity even though the service has been available for more than two years, the Shanghai Exit-Entrance Administration Bureau said yesterday.
Among the city's more than 2 million visa and passport applications last year, less than 10 percent were filed online, much lower than expected. Bureau Director Guo Jianxin said they are encouraging people to apply online and make a reservation so they can come on a designated date to pick up their visas, passports or permits.
