Pair jailed over ‘rape’ blackmail
A PREGNANT woman who blackmailed a man with a false rape accusation to get cash for her child was jailed for 18 months yesterday.
An accomplice who hatched the plan with her was given a two-year jail term, Jiading District People’s Court said.
The woman, surnamed Yan, had told a friend, surnamed Zhu, that she needed money to raise her child. Zhu persuaded her to blackmail a colleague, surnamed Xu.
The pair invited Xu for dinner on May 1 in Malu Town and got him drunk. Zhu then left and Yan seduced Xu.
Afterwards, Yan claimed to have been raped and called Zhu. Zhu demanded 50,000 yuan (US$8,165) from Xu or he would call the police.
Xu gave 5,000 yuan, signing an IOU for the remainder. He called police the next day and Yan and Zhu were held.
Zhu admitted that he had disputes with Xu and had sought revenge.
