Pair pitch tonic over pirate radio
A man and his nephew who sold medicine advertised with an unlicensed private radio broadcast have been arrested for disturbing communication management order, prosecutors in Baoshan District said yesterday.
The men sold their tonic to more than 40 customers, making about 30,000 yuan (US$4,626) in profit.
According to prosecutors, the duo, both surnamed Zhang, started establishing private radio stations in Shanghai and neighboring Kunshan City in Jiangsu Province in November last year to promote a tonic they bought wholesale from a supplier in Yunnan Province.
They rented three houses in Baoshan and Jiading districts in the city and Kunshan, where they set up the stations to advertise the product from 7pm and end at 6am the next morning.
