Paper-cutting theme park

A paper-cutting art theme park will open in Zhuanqiao Town, Minhang District, in September.

Covering some 20,000 square meters, the park will be the first of its kind in Shanghai.

The park will collect and display paper-cutting works from all over China, in addition to hosting paper-cutting competitions. There will also be statues in the shape of traditional paper-cutting artworks installed on the park’s grounds. The park will further feature a stage able to hold 500 people.

The park is designed in the shape of a crane. According to a town official, Zhuanqiao people have a special affection for these birds, which symbolize long life.

Zhuanqiao Town is famed for its traditional paper-cutting arts, which were listed as part of the city’s intangible cultural heritage in 2009.
