Parents fined after son 'injures' classmate
THE parents of a middle school student was ordered by a local court to compensate his classmate 9,000 yuan (US$1,411) after their son's "improper behavior" resulted in a classmate breaking an arm.
And the school, not identified, voluntarily offered 3,000 yuan to the victim's family.
On September 16, the victim, nicknamed Chen Chen, tried to hang from the tree branch by jumping from the base of a basketball stand at school. Chen Chen tried three times.
During his second and third attempts his classmate Luo Luo shouted at him and even slapped his bottom. The sudden moves scared Chen Chen who fell down and fractured his arm, the Pudong New Area People's Court said today.
Though Chen Chen, also a middle school student, should have known the risks of hanging from a tree branch and should take the main responsibility of his injury, the court thought Luo Luo's shouts and pats scared him and directly caused the incident.
