Parents say they fear for missing daughter, 4

THE parents of a 4-year-old girl who went missing while playing outside her home in the Pudong New Area on Sunday morning said yesterday they fear for her safety.

Local police last night refused to tell Shanghai Daily what efforts they were making to find the youngster, saying only that updates would be posted on an official Weibo account.

The child, identified as Fu Sichen, was reported missing by her father about 9am on Sunday, the microblog said.

“She’s been missing for almost two days,” he told Shanghai Daily in a telephone interview last night. “We’re really worried.”

Fu was last seen playing outside her home on Jinqiao Road, near Sanqiao Village, on Sunday morning. But when her father went to check on her about 8:10am, she was nowhere to be seen, he was quoted as saying on the microblog.

The family became concerned after finding Fu’s toys, but no sign of her, he added.

When a search by relatives and friends failed to locate the child, her father called the police, he was quoted as saying.

According to the Weibo report, police have reviewed footage from surveillance cameras in the area and are investigating the matter.

It did not say how many officers were taking part in the search for the child.

Fu’s parents, meanwhile, have posted “missing” posters around their neighborhood in which the youngster is described as being about 1 meter tall, and wearing a dark blue jacket and skirt with pink stripes.
