Park queue-jumper foiled by ticket cheats
A MAN who recently tried to jump the queue at Century Park in the Pudong New Area got his just desserts when the entrance ticket he bought from a scalper turned out to be useless.
The man, surnamed Xu, was quoted as saying in a report by the Xinmin Evening News yesterday that he paid a 30-percent premium — 13 yuan (US$2) instead of 10 yuan — to get immediate access to the popular green space, instead of waiting in line like everyone else.
However, soon after handing over his cash, Xu learned that the ticket he had knowingly bought from a fraud was itself a valueless dud. Rather than a crisp new ticket, Xu had actually purchased a used-up stub, and was denied access, the report said.
Officials from the park, which welcomed more than 35,000 people last Saturday, told Shanghai Daily they are doing all they can to combat ticket scalpers.
