Parks in Xuhui District to offer music on demand

VISITORS to parks in Xuhui District will be able to listen to pop tunes and classical recordings via their smartphones under a new initiative planned by local authorities.

The number and location of the parks have yet to be announced, but they will be near Fenyang Road and Fuxing Road, said Wang Hongzhou, the district’s deputy director.

Sometime in the next two years people visiting the parks will be able to enjoy music-on-demand, Wang said in a radio interview to discuss the district’s tourism plans.

Another initiative involves the conversion of the runway at the former Longhua Airport into a jogging track. The runway is about 3.5 kilometers long and 70 meters wide, Wang said.

An underground leisure, cultural and commercial complex will also be built on the site, he said.

Other tourism plans include upgrading the Xujiahui Yuan scenic spot, while a suburban park with a green theme that is currently under development in Qingpu District is expected to be completed by the end of next year. It should open in 2016, said Sun Ping, deputy director of the district.
