Payout over dog killer fatal dispute
THE family of a man who died trying to stop a dog poisoner killing pets has been awarded 1.1 million yuan (US$176,450) compensation, Jiading District People’s Court announced yesterday.
The dog poisoner, surnamed Li, had already been jailed for two and a half years for endangering public security.
In 2012, Li used muscle relaxant succinylcholine — which in certain doses can cause fatal breathing difficulties — to kill dogs to sell for meat.
On July 22, as Li was about to drive home with 12 dogs killed in Baoshan and Jiading districts, he was stopped by a pedestrian, surnamed Zhao.
Zhao, who’d earlier seen Li killed a dog, remonstrated with him. During the dispute, a dart containing succinylcholine accidentally pierced Zhao’s head.
Li called police and sent Zhao to a nearby hospital, but he later died.
Li said he would make every effort to pay.
