Peach of a time to see the orchards

AS the city’s peach trees come into full bloom, a pink flower sea awaits visitors to the 27th Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival.

Running from next Friday to April 23 in the Pudong New Area, the festival will feature seven major peach orchards in the district and visitors will be able to sample peach flower wine.

A special themed exhibition will be presented on the 119th floor of Shanghai Tower from next Friday.

Taohuacun orchard in Huinan Town will open first — on Thursday — followed by orchards in Datuan Town the following day. Datuan Peach Orchard encourages visitors to bring their pets. Orchards in Xinchang and Laogang towns will open on March 25, featuring traditional games, food and even a blind dating session.

Free shuttle buses will be available from 9am to 1pm to ferry passengers traveling between five peach orchards and Huinan station on Metro Line 16. The buses will leave from Exit 3 of the Metro station, with stops at Nanhui Taohuacun, Haishang, Wangting, Qujiaqiao, and Datuan peach orchards.

The exhibition in Shanghai Tower — Utopia in the Air — will present a series of peach flower related works from illustrator Caro Ni and photographer Xia Tian, and a special screen will show the night sky in Shanghai 100 years ago.
