Pedestrian badly hurt by debris
A 25-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured yesterday when he was hit in the head by a cement block that fell from a three-storey building that was being demolished, Shanghai TV news reported yesterday.
The man suffered a comminuted skull fracture — a break or splinter of the bone into more than two fragments — and is in critical condition at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital.
The accident, which left the man unconscious and bleeding, happened at the intersection of Beijing Road W. and Xinchang Road in downtown Huangpu District at noon.
Residents said no warning signs were posted near the construction site and TV reporters found rubble and broken tiles lying all around the building being demolished.
