Penalty increases
DANGEROUS practices in the workplace, the food industry and the environment not covered by other laws now face higher fines from the city. The local legislative body yesterday increased the maximum administrative penalty to 300,000 yuan (US$48,090) from 100,000 for illegal activities that threaten people’s lives, officials said yesterday. This amendment gives Shanghai the highest administrative penalty among China’s cities.
