Personalized stamps on offer

With emails, chats and smartphones being the order of the day, local postal authorities have come up with a unique way to woo the youngsters.

Newly married couples in Shanghai can now have the pictures of their most important day printed as stamps.

It is one of the two “personalized” services being offered to local residents at some designated postal offices. The other service targets children under 18 years of age whose “stamps” can record their growth.

“Stamps can carry a lot of meanings. It is a unique way to cherish love and happiness and it is also not expensive,” said Zhang Jianhua, director of the Yangpu District Postal Office.

Zhang said the postal offices in Yangpu District began the personalized stamp service in May which was welcomed by all age groups. The service is also available in other districts like  Jing’an and Hongkou.

Individual applicants must order at least two sets of stamps, which means the lowest price is 70 yuan (US$11.4).

Two sets include 24 stamps, among which 16 are printed with the wedding photos and eight printed with a heart pattern. The stamps are arranged in the shape of a heart with each stamp having a bar-value of 1.2 yuan. The unique service will be available only until the end of the year.
