Phase two of riverside landscape project under way

RESIDENTS can look forward to a greener future.

The second phase of a project to create a riverside landscape belt linking the Binjiang and Longhua areas in Xuhui District is under way, the district government said yesterday.

The Longheng Road project, which is situated between Longteng Avenue and Longhua Rd W, involves the construction of a 2,462-meter flood prevention wall and landscaping work over an area of 31,000 square meters. More than 1 kilometre of new roadworks and three new bridges are also planned.

An extension of the Binjiang public space that began in September 2014, the project is expected to make the local environment more livable and improve transport with trolley bus and water taxi services, the government said. The first phase of the project, situated between Yunjin Road and Longteng Avenue, was completed at the end of last year. It involved the construction of a 522-meter flood prevention wall and landscaping over an area of 14,000 square meters.
