Points for recycling electronic goods

HOUSEHOLDERS who take old and unwanted electronic gadgets to designated recycle boxes can earn e-card points under a new city green scheme.
The Shanghai Commerce Commission yesterday announced the campaign to promote proper waste management of electronic goods — such as old mobile phones, digital cameras, computers, chargers and batteries.
More than 16,000 households will this month receive a green e-card which records their disposal of electronic devices in recycle boxes located in 2,000 home appliance retailers, including names such as Suning, Gome and Yolo.
Redeemable points will be awarded for use in stores or for gifts. A mobile phone will earn points equivalent to 5 yuan (80 US cents).
