Poisoner asks victim’s family for forgiveness

A FORMER medical student at Fudan University facing the death penalty for poisoning his roommate has written to his victim’s parents asking for their forgiveness.

This comes before an appeal by Lin Senhao, 28, against his death sentence next Monday.

It was reported that the parents of Huang Yang refused to accept the letter.

“I am sorry for delivering such a big blow to you,” Lin writes in the letter that was seen by xinmin.cn.

“How good it would be if time could be turned back to when I first met Huang Yang and we were both full of confidence and pursuing our dreams.

“I can only say sorry. I want to kneel down to apologize, and I hope you can forgive my soul,” Lin writes.

Xinmin.cn reported that Lin was not good in expressing himself and he wrote a letter because he could not apologize face-to-face to Huang’s parents.

They refused to take the letter from Lin’s attorney, the report said.

The report did not say when Lin wrote the letter.

Lin’s father has also said he wanted to apologize to Huang’s parents, but was refused on several occasions.

Lin has four younger brothers and sisters, and his youngest brother has become very withdrawn since his brother’s crime, according to the report.

Postgraduate medical student Lin was convicted in February at the Shanghai No.2 Intermediate People’s Court of killing fellow medical student Huang in April 2013 and sentenced to death.

He killed Huang over a trivial grudge, putting toxic chemical n-nitrosodimethylamine into a water dispenser they shared.

Lin claimed that he had only intended to play an April Fool’s prank on Huang, who died 15 days later.
