Poisoner awaits fate

THE former medical student who was found guilty of poisoning his roommate will receive his final verdict on Thursday, Shanghai Higher People’s Court said yesterday.
The court will announce the sentence to the public at 10 am. This will be the final ruling in the case. If the death penalty is upheld, however, it will be subject to review by the Supreme People’s Court of China.
Lin Senhao, a former student at Fudan University, previously appealed against a death sentence, insisting that he had intended only to play an April Fool’s joke on roommate Huang Yang, who died after drinking water from a dispenser into which Lin had put a toxic chemical.
