Police arrest father after death of his daughter, 29

A father who allegedly killed his 29-year-old daughter during a dispute was arrested yesterday, according to prosecutors in Pudong New Area.
Relations between the pair, surnamed Su, had been fractious for some time, although tensions reached a tragic conclusion around 9:30pm on the night of March 25 after the daughter threatened to kill the father, according to prosecutors.
Neighbors described the elder Su as a good, tolerant man, while his daughter was said to be cruel and lacking in filial piety, according to earlier reporting by Shanghai Morning Post.
Speaking to the newspaper, Su’s wife, surnamed Liu, also stated that relations between Su and his daughter were poor, with the daughter often asking for large sums of money from her parents.
Over a six month period, the couple gave some 400,000 yuan (US$64,516) to their daughter, although this amount was not sufficient for her, said Liu.
Last September, the daughter reportedly beat Su with an iron rod. Quarrels between the two were said to have become very frequent after this incident.
Liu told the Post that their daughter made verbal threats against her parents and once hired more than 10 roughnecks to accost Su on his way home from work. In a separate incident, the young woman reportedly burnt her father with ethyl alcohol and a lighter after Su took her to see whether she was abusing drugs.
The younger Su was married at the time of her death, although she and her husband had reportedly been separated for three years. The pair had two sons, age 4 and 9.
On the night of her death, prosecutors say Su’s daughter went to her parent’s house and started a quarrel with her father. After his daughter threatened his life, Su allegedly struck several blows to her head which led to the woman’s death.
