Police officers hurt in boozy altercation
Three policemen were injured by a group of seven friends, four of whom were drunk, in Minhang District on Tuesday.
All seven have been detained and are from Hebei Province, police said.
The incident started when a bus, driven by a man surnamed Zhang, was about to enter a bus station on Xihuan Road at 9:15pm that night, according to Shanghai Morning Post. A car was blocking the station entrance at the time.
“The car was parked illegally,” Zhang told the newspaper.
He honked the horn. Four people then got out of the car and started cursing him and banging on a bus window. Their three friends were in a second car. The incident caused traffic to back up about 500 meters.
Officers arrived and negotiated with the car driver to move the vehicle so the bus could enter the station. At this point, one man sat in front of the bus and shouted he had been hit, the report said.
When an officer came to help, his peers swarmed around and shouted the “policeman is hitting us,” the newspaper said. More officers arrived and took both drivers to a police station for questioning.
The friends followed and started a fight outside the station. One punched a cop and by the time he was subdued, three officers had been injured.
