Police probe attack on nurse in children’s hospital
POLICE have launched an investigation after a nurse at Shanghai Children’s Hospital was attacked by a patient’s family on Tuesday.
The hospital said it received a 3-year-old child, surnamed Tang, with a history of bleeding from the nose early on Tuesday. The doctor suggested electric nasopharyngoscopy, a diagnostic procedure to examine the nasal passageways and throat.
After paying for it, the family took the boy to the third floor for examination. But since he had eaten something just then, the nurses told them to wait for an hour before carrying out the tests.
But after the tests were completed, Tang’s family were unhappy with the explanation given by the nurses.
Since the irate family were holding back other patients, the nurse asked them to leave the diagnosis room, when, all of a sudden, they hit the nurse.
The hospital immediately called the police and the nurse was sent for treatment. Pictures posted online showed deep scratches and scars on the face.
A medical check found that she also suffered from hearing loss.
The hospital issued a statement strongly “condemning the violent act and demanding justice be served.”
“We want the patients to respect the medical staff in order to build a healthy relationship. We hope similar incidents don’t happen in the future again,” it said in the statement.
