Police probing dispute which turned violent

POLICE are investigating a dispute which turned violent after six urban management officers reportedly beat up a driver, Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The victim, surnamed Hu, claimed that an illegally parked pick-up vehicle blocked his way when he was driving on Zhuansheng Road at 3pm on September 14. He asked the driver to move, but the driver refused to give way and got off the vehicle with his colleagues, saying they were enforcing the law.

Hu saw some officers trying to stop residents from drying their clothes outside on the streets but he still asked the driver to move the pick-up. In the ensuing dispute, things heated up a bit.

Hu said six officers, carrying sticks, beat him on his head and back. After some pedestrians called police, the officers tried to flee but were stopped by Hu, who was standing in front of the pick-up. They hit Hu again and ran away after Hu fell to the ground.

Hu was later sent to the Shanghai No. 5 People’s Hospital and diagnosed with internal bleeding and some bruises.

The city’s urban administrative authorities stated that the “officers” were employees of a subsidiary company.
