Police rescue kidnapped woman in Jiangsu, 3 suspects held
A WOMAN who was kidnapped on her way to work on Wednesday morning was traced and rescued in Jiangsu Province early yesterday.
Three suspects have been detained.
The 27-year-old woman, surnamed Ding, works at the Hongqiao International Airport.
She was waiting for the shuttle bus at the crossroad of Yan’an Road W. and Hongjing Road at 5am on Wednesday, when a white vehicle stopped in front of her.
Two men got off the car and forced her to get into the vehicle.
Police, who were informed by the woman’s relatives in the afternoon, tried to trace the vehicle with the help of surveillance cameras, only to find that the vehicle used for the kidnapping was using a counterfeit car plate.
According to a netizen who claimed to be a friend of Ding’s brother, a former schoolmate of Ding was contacted by a bank about 9pm on Wednesday, saying her ATM card was used in one of the bank’s branch in Jiading District with wrong password.
The schoolmate immediately reported it to police who then found the three suspects in Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, at 1:10am early yesterday.
It is not known why Ding was carrying her former schoolmate’s bank card.
Police said Ding was not hurt and had undergone tests at a hospital.
She was helping with the investigation, police said.
Police said the kidnappers were neither from Shanghai nor Taicang but did not reveal their identities.
The trio, all born after 1980, got to know each not too long ago. They planned the kidnapping for money.
