Police warn 9 people for giving out Metro flyers
NINE people have been given police warnings for distributing flyers on the subway network.
Metro police said the people were apprehended by plainclothes officers on Tuesday as they were handing out leaflets to travelers and leaving them on trains on Metro Line 11.
The members of the group escaped with just a warning as it was their first offense, but all of the advertising materials were confiscated, police said.
In a separate incident, Metro workers ordered more than 30 people to stop handing out leaflets on trains on Line 11. The staff collected more than 2,000 flyers, most of which promoted real estate developments.
One Metro worker said groups of distributors are often seen at stations along the northwest section of the line after being hired by property companies and agents in the area.
Anyone found distributing flyers within the Metro network faces a fine or even detention, police said.
In September, six people were detained for organizing groups of people to hand out leaflets on the subway.
Meanwhile, a man has been detained for five days after molesting a female student on a Metro Line 1 train.
The incident happened about 6:20pm on Tuesday when the 20-something man, surnamed Zheng, boarded a Line 1 train.
He sat next to the girl and began touching her legs. When another passenger saw what was happening he called police. Officers boarded the train at Lianhua Road Station and Zheng was escorted away.
