Pregnant US woman drank before crash
A pregnant Chinese-American woman who crashed into a gate, a street lamp and a parked car after a night of drinking was sentenced to three months in jail with a three-month reprieve for dangerous driving, the Jing’an District People’s Court said yesterday.
The woman, who was also fined 5,000 yuan (US$760), was treated leniently because of her pregnancy, the court said.
A surveillance video shows that at dawn on April 14, the woman, surnamed Yan, drove a white SUV out of the Yan’an Hotel’s parking lot and crashed into an iron gate and a street lamp before hitting a parked car on Yan’an Road M.
She then returned to the hotel’s parking lot.
Police were called and the woman, who presented an American driving license, failed a breathalyzer test.
