Probe into ‘gambling in mall’
POLICE are to investigate a gaming room suspected of providing gambling services in a shopping center in Baoshan District.
The gaming room, located on the ground floor of Wanda Plaza, is behind a roller shutter and looks like a closed store from outside.
But when a Shanghai Television reporter claimed to be a player and was let in, what looked like 10 gambling machines could be seen inside.
The owner told the reporter that he needed to buy digital points, and could later exchange points for cash.
The reporter complained to the plaza management but was told that the gaming room is licensed.
Gaming machines are legal in China so long as the player does not win money. Other prizes are acceptable.
Police said they will investigate.
