Prosecuted for running gambling den
A man accused of soliciting gamblers to a mobile gambling platform through WeChat has been prosecuted for running a gambling den in Fengxian District.
Prosecutors said the suspect, identified as Zhang Zhongjun, got a rake-off of more than 10,000 yuan (US$1,450) after he brought in half a dozen or so gamblers within five months.
Zhang is alleged to have been touting for business in March for a gambling mobile application called Royal Casino, which offered a variety of gambling card games.
Prosecutors said he posted advertisements, along with the QR code of the app, in WeChat “Moments.”
Zhang allegedly said gamblers would transfer him cash via WeChat’s banking system, and he would offer them the account and access to the app. He received a 40 percent fee of what gamblers lost.
Prosecutors said Zhang was charged over running a gambling den because he was engaged in enticing others into gambling.
