Protected status sought for 鈥榮aved鈥 arcade buildings

THE Huangpu District government yesterday applied for protected status for a row of arcade houses, or qilou, on Jinling Road E.
The properties were recently saved from the bulldozers following an appeal by a local expert and members of the public. The government will solicit the opinions of other experts and the public on how to protect and renovate the houses, Zhang Li, Party chief of the Huangpu urban planning authority, said yesterday.
