Pudong hosts chess event
ABOUT 220 young chess players from 11 regions and countries in East Asia will compete in the Third Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship in Shanghai.
The players, aged from 8 to 18, will compete in games until August 10 at the Shanghai Yangjing-Juyuan Experimental School in the Pudong New Area.
This is the first time Shanghai will hold the championship.
The event is organized by the Asian Chess Federation, Chinese Chess Association, Shanghai Sports Bureau and the Board and Card Games Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sports of China.
Schools in Lujiazui such as Yangjing-Juyuan Experimental School and Laoshan Primary School started chess classes more than a decade ago.
