Pupils hurt eyes in science test
SEVERAL pupils and teachers at an international primary school in the Pudong New Area required eye checks earlier this month after being exposed to ultraviolet light during a science experiment, news website xinmin.cn reported yesterday.
The incident happened on October 5 at Wellington College International Shanghai, the report said, citing a statement issued by the school. It did not say how many people were affected.
The pupils and teachers reported soreness in their eyes the day after being exposed to the UV light for between 30 and 50 seconds during an experiment used to show the presence of bacteria on the children’s hands, the report said.
