Railway drug checks
SHANGHAI railway police has joined a nation-wide crackdown on drug-trafficking via rail that will run until the end of the year.
“Special attention” will be paid to trains arriving in Shanghai from provinces associated with the drug trade, including Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hubei, Gansu and Xinjiang, police said. Most passengers will not face additional luggage checks at train stations, but those who “look suspicious,” or are known to police because of their involvement in drug-related crimes, will be subject to extra scrutiny.
